Painting Again
Its been a while sense I posted anything, huh? I mean the blog is called a design a day and I haven’t posted for a month. Well, two jobs can do that for you. The little free time you get definitely doesn’t want to be in front of a computer. Thanks to Memorial Day however, I got a little extra time to paint. Sadly, I couldn’t come up with something to paint so I instead made some calligraphy. I’m not very good at it but that’s because I don’t do it too much.
Anyway, I was looking for a Chinese poem to write and I found one by Du Fu. Its called Traveling Again and I think its beautiful. Here is the translation:
I remember the temple, this route I’ve travelled before,
I recall the bridge as I cross it again.
It seems the hills and rivers have been waiting,
The flowers and willows all are selfless now.
The field is sleek and vivid, thin mist shines,
On soft sand, the sunlight’s colour shows it’s late.
All the traveller’s sorrow fades away,
What better place to rest than this?
It talks about the grandeur of coming to a place you’ve been before. Its like when I go back to Nevada after a long time or when I return home from there. Things seem like I have been gone for centuries and yet, feel exactly how I left them. A confidence builds up inside you from remembering what happened in each corner you pass by. Its like traveling to a place you’ve been creates a catalyst of reminiscing. Either way, it makes me happy to go some where, even if its a train of thought I haven’t had for a couple of months.
Even though I dreaded being unemployed for three months, there was something in them that made me happy. I always try to believe that every moment is perfect. When crap happens though its hard to think that way. I think this poem talks about how in a day, week, month, or even year, every situation looks desirable.
Hooray! You’re posting things again! Also, cool poem.
