A Little Night Life

Being inspired by the Type Directors Club this morning, I decided to typographically represent a beautifully written line from the song, Frank Sinatra, by Cake. I was going for the glamour and lights that I envision when I think of Sinatra and his Rat Pack. I also got the chance to use this new typeface I got yesterday. It’s called League Gothic. Isn’t it pretty?

Building this design, I mainly thought of two things: how phenomenal smart objects are in Photoshop and how I’ve been using Outer Glow a lot recently. I’m sad that I never took advantage of Outer Glow before but I better not get hooked, huh? Either way, I love using styles and effects that I’m not used to give me a better vocabulary for future designs. This project is almost like playing with a visual Thesaurus. Hmm. That’s a cool idea: a visual Thesaurus.

    1. i too love this line in the song.

    2. good job on the background lights. i love the lights on the right hand side. they remind me of the bright lights of a city at night from a either dirty of foggy window of a taxi cab.

    3. League Gothic is quite gorgeous. simple & clean. i think i like this more than Univers Condensed. How big is the font family?

    4. in your design it doesn’t seem like the fly and the spider are getting along because they are going in different directions, but i like the concept.

    5. a visual theasaurus? hmmm… sounds good to me. i like pictures better than words!

ooh, I like the background. Good job blending it all and making the font stand out still. I also like the color choice and the embellishments. I’ll have to check this song out.
